Dr. Tomoko Hosoe is Managing Director of FGE Japan and a Member of FGE’s Executive Committee. She has 23 years of experience in oil and gas consultancy with FGE.
As an energy expert on Japan, Dr. Hosoe is familiar with energy policies and economics, supply/demand and trade, with a special focus on downstream oil and natural gas/LNG. Her research focus also includes a comparative analysis of corporate efficiency of national oil companies (NOC) vs. international oil companies (IOC).
Japan is one of FGE's largest client bases, and includes clients from a wide range of sectors including top oil and gas companies, trading houses, international organizations, governments, financial institutions, shipping companies, engineering and technology companies, as well as LNG and LPG importers. FGE’s unique strength comes from relationships with key decision makers within the energy industry, as well as the quality of its analysis. Dr. Hosoe regularly meets with the top management of these companies and METI(Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry)officials for high-level strategic discussions. She oversees all consulting work from and related to Japan, ensuring the highest quality and that the clients’ needs are met. As the world is accelerating efforts towards carbon neutrality, she is working together with the clients to determine their long-term objectives and the next steps to take.
Dr. Hosoe has been involved in numerous projects on Japan-focused energy issues – Asian LNG Market: Fundamentals and Pricing, Strategic Recommendations for Japan’s LNG Procurement; LNG Market Study for Russian LNG for Japan; Japan’s Gas and Power Market Deregulation; Japan-US Product Trade; ASEAN+3 Energy Securities; and APEC Energy Securities; Japan’s Energy Transition Path.
She has published numerous reports related to Japan’s energy industry, which have been cited in Middle East Economic Survey, Oil and Gas Journal, and other oil/gas publications. Dr. Hosoe has been a chapter contributing author of numerous publications on Japanese energy and policy issues.
She has a PhD in International Relations (Graduate School of International Relations, Nihon University) and a Masters in Public Affairs (Indiana University, School of Public and Environmental Affairs). She is a member of Phi Theta Kappa Honor Society and was a Project Specialist at the East-West Center (federally-funded think tank located in Honolulu, USA) during 2001-2013.
