FGE said that global sustainable aviation fuel use would hit 8% of the total jet pool in 2035 and 19% by 2050, also implying that the aviation industry's 2050 net zero target is effectively out of reach.
SAF consumption would reach over 700,000 bpd in 2035 and nearly 2 million bpd mid-century, leading to a stagnation in fossil jet demand from the 2030s, said FGE.
